Metadata Application Profile
Brief Description of the Metadata Schema
The Dublin Core schema was chosen for this metadata application profile (MAP) for its simplicity, adaptability, and interoperability. In some cases, Dublin Core qualifiers are used to help refine and add more granular detail to some of the basic Dublin Core elements. Dublin Core is also the default metadata schema used for items and collections in Omeka.
Some Dublin Core elements in the catalogue were also assigned corresponding controlled vocabularies to support the findability and future use of these resources. Where necessary, modifications to or deviations from these standard vocabularies were accepted to best accommodate the particularities of the virtual worlds. Where relevant, these are noted for each element below. The creators of the artworks in these collections were also invited to contribute to the metadata records for these items, most notably, artist input was sought for the subject terms to describe their works.
Please note that the Metadata Application Profile below is only a summary of the system used in this catalogue. If you would like to learn even more about the application profile, please contact the Decameron Collective.
